Eight Easy Steps to Creating and Saving your Six Word Memoir PowerPoint Slide
Step One: Go online to search copyright free images that you can use for your slide. Images under “Creative Commons” are free to use, but note you must still attribute (give credit to your source). Try out the following websites to start browsing:
Step Two: After you’ve found your image, using your mouse right click on the image and select “Save As”.
Next, save your image on the student drive (Z or H Drive) under your class folder (Tr. Lacey 7A/B/C or D).
Rename the file name as “Your Name Image”
Step Three: Next, use the start menu to open Microsoft Office PowerPoint.
Click at the top of the screen where it says “Insert” and select “Picture” then “From file”
Select the image you saved under the correct file with your name.
Step Four: Now your image is on the slide, but it might be a little too big. Use the circles in the corners of the picture to drag your image to make it either smaller or larger.
Once you are satisfied with the slide, go to the top of the screen where it says “File” and then click on “Save As.”
Make sure to save your work in you class folder on the student drive, so you know where to find it! The file name should be “Your First and Last Name 6WM.”
Step Five: Now it’s time to add your text. Get out the final draft of your Six Word Memoir so you don’t make any silly mistakes.
Go to the drop down menu at the top of the screen “Insert” and select “Text Box”. Now you may draw a text box anywhere you wish by clicking and dragging your mouse. You can change the size and placement of your text box at any time.
Inside your text box, type your Six Word Memoir. Select the words in the box to change the font, style, and size. Be creative, but make sure that your viewers will be able to easily read your memoir!
Step Six: Create another text box for your name. Include your first name and last initial only (and make sure it is easy to read!).
Step Seven: Save your work once more, and log in to your ICS mail address to upload your work and save once more. Click on “documents” and then click on “Upload” and then “File.” Select your Six Word Memoir slide to save to your account.
Step Eight: Use the handout provided to create your MLA citation. Remember, failure to cite your source is a form of fraud, plagiarism.
